Project:
Scan, color-correct, image-edit, and optimize graphics for print and web
Client:
NOAA
(Coast Pilot)
NOTE:
CMYK colors might have shifted during the creation of these web RGB samples.
NOAA produced an annual series of reference books for navigating US waters. Each year, a new cover photo is selected for the year's series.
I edit the original photo, create a master version that's used for all editions of that year's series, and produce the covers for each edition. Additionally, I create a 3-D version of the books...before any of the editions are actually printed. To do this, I export the layed-out cover designs from Adobe InDesign into Photoshop, where I use tools to create 3-D perspectives of the front cover, spine, and rear cover.
Cover photo :
Extended sky at top of photo to accommodate the book's design.
Brightened the detail and heightened the contrast in the dark shadow areas in lower right.
Removed fence and posts around the lighthouse building.
Sharpened the focal point detail.
Produced versions for both CMYK printing and RGB website.
