Our Design Process

i-Imagery's Design Process is straightforward: first, we meet with you to discuss your objectives, what you think works with your present website or publication, what you think doesn't, features of other websites or publications you like and might want for yourself, and who your clients are and what their needs are. The information gathered from these meetings allows us to proceed with the project.

For print publications:
If we're designing or revamping a print publication for you, we'll work up one or more proposed designs and layout options, and present them for approval or further refinement. Once the final look is chosen we can either produce the publication entirely in your choice of page layout software and platform, or create custom templates that your internal publications team can use by dropping in their text and graphics.

We also offer training in the all the major desktop publishing and graphics software, graphic design concepts, preflighting, and production techniques.

All our files for print publications are created in industry-compliant formats and are PostScript compliant. Print publications are created in an industry-standard layout software program you choose (QuarkXPress, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Pagemaker, Adobe Framemaker, or Corel Ventura); graphics are created with an industry-standard program (Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illlustrator, CorelDraw, and Macromedia Freehand) and are saved as EPS or TIF files that .

For websites and intranets:
Whether for a new site or a redesign, our web development clients are asked to fill out our Website Analysis Guide (download our Microsoft Word document that can be completed and returned) to fill out. Completing this document gives us a great deal of background information about your objectives for your website; it serves as our guide as we develop the site.

By reviewing the questionnaire, we create a simple site architecture (or outline) which is used to structure the site. Upon its approval, we go to the drawing board and present you with two or three design prototypes for the opening splash page (and sometimes a sample interior page). You choose one design to refine further. Our prototypes are quite flexible, almost a mix-and-match strategy. You can select the layout from prototype #1, the color scheme from prototype #2, and the typefaces from prototype #3, etc.

The selected prototype is then refined and optimized for speedy web-transmission, and all the required graphics are created for nav buttons, graphics, banners, etc. We also create the interior page template (one or more), along with any Level 1 menu page templates.

The next phase, development, is the actual putting together or reworking of the site. You may contract with us to develop the site entirely; some clients choose to take our design and implement it themselves using their own staff. If you choose this option, i-Imagery can create professional, custom-designed templates for web publishing that your internal web development team can use by dropping in their text and graphics — and provide all the training necessary so you and your staff can get right to work.

Note that we do not retain any ownership of the files, graphics, logos, etc. once created and approved, so there are no annual retainers to pay.
